John and Frances Z.S. Knight plantation deed, 1845 Dec. 17.

John Knight and his wife, Frances Z.S. Beall, of Natchez, Miss., sold to John N. Helm and his wife, Helen Maria Timberlake, of Adams County, Miss., the 2,623-acre Hyde Park Plantation on Little Choctaw Bayou in Tensas Parish, La., for the price of $132,000. The deed lists the names and ages of 67 slaves attached to the plantation and included in the sale. Helm also mortgaged in favor of Knight as collateral a 1,447-acre tract of land in Adams County called Beverly Place and 170 slaves whose names and ages are listed. George C. McWhorter, parish judge and notary public of Concordia Parish, La., oversaw the sale.
